39 Vocal pieces

One volume of 44 fols. Table of contents follows title. The collection consists largely of double canons, of which only two voices are notated. It is essentially a reprint of Motetti noui et et chanzoni franciosi a quattro sopra doi, Venice, Andrea Antico, 1520 [RISM 1520|3]. However, the order of the works differs from Antico’s order, and eight works not in Antico have been added (nos. 1, 3, 19, 20, 22, 23, 26, 37), three of which are non-canonic duos (nos. 1, 3, 37)., Finscher 1995 points out that this is the sole surviving complete copy of the collection. It is now in the Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel, and is found as part of a set of four thick leather-bound books, identified as Superius, Contratenor, Tenor, and Bassus, each containing fourteen Attaingnant collections. The present volume is the first item in the Contratenor partbook, where it is bound with the contratenor parts of RISM J443, [1528]|2, [c.1528]|4 , [c.1528]|5 , [c.1528]|7 , [c.1528]|8 , [c.1528]|9 , 1529|1 , 1529|2 , 1529|3 , 1530|3 , 1530|4 , and 1530|5. The Superius, Tenor, and Bassus partbooks contain the three parts of 1529|4 (a 3), and the remaining three parts of the thirteen collections listed above., The volume could not be examined, but the inventory below was reconstructed from the table of contents in Finscher 1995; since the volume is lacking attributions, these were taken from 1520|3. For further information see FinscherA 1995 and HeartzA 1969, N.B. A second setting of Mon petit cueur is found in 1520|3, and, according to FinscherA 1995, is also included in this collection, but it is not listed in the table of contents presented in that study.
